Jenny is a 2nd grade teacher, Cole works for UT in the Texas Technology Access Program, and Delaney is a junior at UT in Publications Relations/Sports Media.

She says:

As the director I wear many hats.  I love visiting with the children and spending time in chapel with the older ones.  I’m in charge of maintaining a quality staff of teachers, and I feel we have a great group of talented people who love what they do.  I try to support the parents and help them feel welcome at our school.  Behind the scenes I’m doing the school’s accounting and the planning and organizing of school events.  Ultimately, I’m charged with making sure that our school meets and exceeds both the state’s minimum standards and also the higher standards that are required of an excellent preschool program.

Ms. Katy

Ms. Katy is one of our Pre-K teachers.  She grew up in a suburb of Houston, but got to Austin as soon as she could.  She graduated from UT with a degree in Applied Learning and Development and started her first job in the same school where she did her student teaching.  She taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade for 10 years in Pflugerville ISD before deciding to stay home with her kids.

Ms. Katy joined the CUMC Preschool family in 2014 when her oldest son started in Ms. Jenny’s 3’s class and her middle son joined Ms. Kelly’s 1’s.  Her youngest son just graduated the preschool and is off to Kindergarten.  She has subbed at the preschool for 3 years as well as served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Preschool Administrative Council before joining the staff as a 3’s teacher last year and then becoming one of the PreK teachers.

I love teaching at Covenant UMC Preschool because I love to play and I love the little ones.  I believe, as does the preschool, that playing is important to a child’s development and that it lays the groundwork for future learning.  I hope to foster a love of learning in the children through my interactions with them.

When not indoors at the preschool, Ms. Kelly likes to be outside in the sunshine biking, swimming, or walking.  If it is July in Austin, she is an avid fan of the Zilker Hillside Summer Musical.

Ms. Sarah

Ms. Sarah is our Spanish teacher! She studied Spanish from 7th grade through college where she double majored in Spanish at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. She lived with a non-English speaking family in Huelva, Spain where she became fluent in Spanish. Most currently, she volunteered as a weekly classroom Spanish teacher at Davis Elementary, served as a coordinator of Spanish teaching volunteers at Davis as well as updated the curriculum.

She says:

By learning foreign languages, we build cultural appreciation for others; hone listening skills; become more comfortable trying new things and practice speaking in front of others. In Ms Sarah’s Spanish class, these skills are practiced in fun and engaging ways with songs and games, stories and art projects, all while building a basic Spanish vocabulary. We believe that repetition is the key to retention so, while we add new words each week, we are sure to spend time with words that we already know. This buildable approach enhances confidence without overwhelming the children as they venture into unfamiliar areas.
